Hidradenitis suppurativa:

with Laser Nd-Yag 1064

The hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic disease characterized by recurrent painful, deep, nodules and abscesses. The main features are the presence of hypertrophic and suppurative scarring. It can affect different locations including: armpit, groin, perianal and perineal regions. The primary event is a follicular occlusion with secondary inflammation, infection and destruction of the pilosebaceous-apocrine unit and successive extension to the adjacent subcutaneous tissue. The differential diagnosis includes Crohn's disease, nodular acne. Different treatments are available depending on the clinical stage.

We treated patients with hidradenitis suppurativa located in the inguinal, axillary and intermammary region. The patients were previously treated with different methods, including broad-spectrum systemic antibiotics, systemic steroids, retinoids, botulinum toxin, photodynamic therapy with no benefits or surgery resulting in destructive and recurrent scars after about 30-40 days.

The new method provides an intralesional treatment with a new technique using a Nd-Yag 1064 laser, under local anesthesia.

We clinically evaluated the patients at regular intervals with excellent results without a trace of recurrency at 12 months after surgery. This technique has proven effective, safe and minimally invasive therefore a efficient therapeutic alternative in cases of hidradenitis resistant to conventional therapies.
